Hepatitis B is a major disease, with over 2 billion people being exposed to the virus, resulting in 360 million chronically infected and up to 700,000 deaths annually. Hepatitis B is more prevalent in the developing world, but is also in the Western countries a major cause of liver cirrhosis and liver cancer.

IQPHBx is a series of multiple monoclonal antibodies developed by IQ Therapeutics, that are each individually able to stop the infection cycle of the Hepatitis B virus by blocking viral entry into the host liver cells. The antibodies have been cloned from Hepatitis B vaccinated donors and selected for high specificity against the vaccine. Currently, different combinations of antibodies are tested to find the most optimal cocktail in inhibiting the Hepatitis B virus, and which cocktail has most competitive activity compared to HBIG. The advantage of IQ’s monoclonal antibodies over HBIG will be that these antibodies are safe, stable, reproducibly specific and of constant quality. In contrast to HBIG, there is no need for testing and selection of various serum batches, and the production process is well-controlled, essentially safe and eventually independent of blood donations.
